He states that slavery should be seen as the birth of a people, a people who are yet un-named. He stresses the importance of family, education, and history as a means of moving forward and gaining acknowledgment as a people. He makes a plea for direction. DeLoach graduated from San Jose State University with a degree in history. He went on to serve the city of San Jose, California, as a police officer. He is now retired and lives with his wife, Veronica, in Antioch California. DeLoach is a member of the Omega Psi Phi fraternity, Inc. and the Association of Retired San Jose Police and Firefighters. His interests include sailing, bike riding, backpacking and golfing. He also enjoys relaxing while walking his dog Khufu aka Chance.
