San Diego, CA (PRWEB) November 1, 2009 -- Deniece Duscheone of the San Diego-based design firm S.K.I.N. has been commissioned to re-design the La Pensione hotel, located in the heart of downtown San Diego's historic Little Italy district. A model room has been completed and remodeling is slated for December. Renovations will include a complete makeover of the lobby, reception area, guest rooms, corridors, and courtyard.
La Pensione, founded in 1991 and owned by the Dodge family, is ideally located on one of Little Italy's liveliest streets and is just minutes away from the San Diego Convention Center, Petco Park, harbor, and other sightseeing attractions. The neighborhood, which originated in the 1920s and at one time was home to over 6,000 Italian families, still maintains the title of one of America's largest Italian-based business communities. Over half a dozen festivals and weekly events including farmers markets, art walks and weekend street festivals are held in Little Italy, promoting the heritage of the original business district.
Duscheone will transform the hotel, introducing a feel of urban luxury while retaining the original structure, including the Italian inspired facade, designed by Rob Quigley. Guests will be welcomed by a chic and contemporary lobby and courtyard setting. Duscheone was inspired by past and present Italian masters for the color palette of persimmon and ocher textiles against a background of bright white and gray. An Alison Berger chandelier and gas-burning fire place will be focal points of the new lobby.
Sixty-three guest rooms and 6 newly created suites will be contemporized with a sophisticated palette of grays and whites. Sleek furnishings custom-designed by Duscheone's product line, Kinetic, include a modern desk that also functions as a dresser, nightstands, and a white pearlized faux-ostrich headboard. Italian hanging glass fixtures on each side of the bed complement the silver foil Dedar wall coverings behind the headboards. Rooms include luxurious elements such as flat screen televisions, rain showers, Frette linens, crown moldings, polished nickel fixtures, and Carrara marble.
Duscheone is most recognized for her $56 million redesign of the US Grant Hotel, for which she accepted the HotelWorld Award for Best Luxury Guestroom Design, the California Construction award for Best Architectural Renovation and the Alanzo Award for Best Design.
La Pensione offers modern, affordable accommodations and was ranked in the top 10 in budget travel for San Diego County. La Pensione's model room is available for viewing, and the entire re-design of the hotel, which includes an all-new HVAC system, is scheduled to be completed by 2011.
