New Roof May Qualify For Tax Credit Under President's Stimulus Plan
As part of President Barack Obama's stimulus package, some roofing systems that improve energy efficiency are now eligible for a federal tax credit.
Dallas, Texas (PRWEB) November 1, 2009 -- As part of President Barack Obama's stimulus package, some roofing systems that improve energy efficiency are now eligible for a federal tax credit. Although a simple list of roofing materials that are eligible for the tax credit doesn't exist, Gallagher's Construction, serving the Dallas/Fort Worth, Houston and surrounding areas, can help determine whether such a roof would qualify on a home.
In order to qualify, homeowners must have "metal roofs with appropriate pigmented coatings" and "asphalt roofs with appropriate cooling granules" that also meet the requirements for Energy Star®.
For 2009 and 2010, the tax credit is for 30% of the cost of only the roofing materials, up to $1,500. Roof coatings are not eligible for the credit, neither are the costs of installation and labor.
"Installing a new roof is an investment, and we want to make sure you get the most out of it," says Gallagher's Construction owner Robert Gallagher. "If you are in need of a new roof, it pays to have one installed that will not only give you the best protection and insulation, but that can also earn you a tax credit."
A similar tax benefit was available in 2007, but the current offer has a higher credit limit. In addition, the requirements for the materials have also become more stringent.
"We have been providing comprehensive residential and commercial roofing services to Dallas/Fort Worth, Houston and the surrounding areas for more than 30 years," he says. "Our company offers a wide range of roofing services in the residential and commercial sectors and provides a 10-year workmanship warranty."
These energy-efficient roofing systems help to keep a home cool by reflecting the sun's heat away from the roof; this, in turn, will cause a homeowner to need to run air-conditioning less frequently, resulting in using less energy and also saving money on utility bills.
"If you have a small- to average-sized house, the total job cost to replace your roof is likely to be less than $5,000," Gallagher says. "And of course, you also get the added benefit of energy savings by decreasing your cooling costs. It is a win-win situation all the way around."
The tax credit is available only on existing homes - not on new construction. Improvements made in 2009 will be claimed on customers' taxes for 2009.
The company, a member of the National Roofing Contractors Association and the Better Business Bureau, is "committed to quality, performance and integrity in construction of the highest level - and strives to exceed industry standards and the expectations of our customers," Gallagher says. "We will be happy to provide a free written roofing estimate - and we welcome insurance claims. Our company offers financing and payment plans, and we also accept all major credit cards."
