The Post Office foreign currency Long Haul Report shows the Far East flies high for UK holidaymakers
Far East offers unbeatable foreign exchange value for this year's winter sun escapes
London, UK (PRWeb UK/PRWEB ) November 1, 2009 -- The Far East offers the best value for this year's winter sun trips, according to the Post Office Long Haul Report, which looks at foreign currency exchange rates and typical holiday costs. UK holidaymakers' travel money will stretch further in Thailand, which tops the list, followed by Bali and Malaysia.
The Post Office Holiday Cost Barometer, which surveys typical holiday prices abroad, found that UK holidaymakers' travel money won't go as far in Europe or the bottom-ranked destination, Australia. However, demand for Indonesian foreign currency shot up by 54 per cent during the summer and its favourable foreign exchange rate means UK holidaymakers' pounds will go further. For example, UK travellers' foreign currency will buy a coffee for only 50p in Thailand or £1.05 in Bali, making sterling foreign currency exchange for these locations a good option, when compared to Kenya where the cost of a coffee is £1.63.
Current foreign exchange rates also place Mexico and Jamaica high in the Post Office Long Haul Report rankings. The foreign currency exchange rate in Mexico will get 12 per cent more pesos for the pound then at the beginning of 2009.
Head of Post Office Travel Services Sarah Munro said: "When it comes to both cost and value for money, Thailand, Bali and Malaysia are the top three hot spots this winter. However, UK holidaymakers need to be careful to get their travel money and exchange their foreign currency in advance. Leaving it late and changing money at the airport or in overseas ATMs means wasting hard-earned cash through costly commission and withdrawal fees."
