AAPC to Offer Nationwide On-Site ICD-10 Implementation Training

Comprehensive on-site ICD-10 implementation training will be available for organizations and companies nationwide beginning January 2010, the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC, www.aapc.com) announces. The curriculum is customizable for many sizes and types of organizations, including health plans and providers.

Salt Lake City, Utah (PRWEB) November 2, 2009 -- Comprehensive on-site ICD-10 implementation training will be available for organizations and companies nationwide beginning January 2010, the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC, www.aapc.com) announces today. The curriculum, developed by a team of experts led by renowned ICD-10 authority Deborah Grider, is customizable for many sizes and types of organizations, including health plans and providers.

The three-day, on-site, customized ICD-10 implementation training is designed to lead organizations through the implementation process step-by-step, ensuring the organization is fully prepared for the switch. The course outline includes organizing the implementation efforts, developing cross-functional teams, budgeting, outcomes measurement, crosswalking and mapping, and compliance along with hands-on exercises using the ICD-10 code set.

"It is imperative that all health care organizations train their staffs, including physicians and coders, on the new ICD-10 system," Grider said. "Comprehensive training ensures your stability and revenue during the transition while maintaining your staff's productivity."

The AAPC's ICD-10 experts will conduct the on-site trainings at requested locations across the country. Templates and tools will be provided on CD for the organization along with an implementation manual. More information about the AAPC's on-site training is available online at www.aapc.com/ICD-10training.

ICD-10 is part of the international standard diagnostic classification for all general epidemiological, many health management purposes and clinical uses. ICD-10 differs from its predecessor, ICD-9, in that it contains more than 155,000 codes--nearly 10 times the number of codes in the ICD-9 set. The change to the new system, as mandated by the Department of Health and Human Services in January 2009, will be the most challenging transition since the inception of coding. To aid the health care industry through this transition, the AAPC has dedicated a team of its coding experts to develop and lead trainings for health plans, providers and facilities. More information the AAPC's ICD-10 involvement and training programs is available online at www.aapc.com/ICD-10.
