In the vide, Prof. Tredici shares findings from a study spanning two years, where he and his team identified 31 freshwater algae and marine algae species and subjected them to a battery of tests to increase their lipid and biomass yields. Using a combination of laboratory tests and outdoor tests, he reveals how nitrogen starvation can increase algal lipid productivity.
Prof. Tredici's also highlights areas of weakness, fundamental assumptions and misinformation on algae production systems, and biomass and lipid yields that are prevalent in the industry, and provides real-world examples, and scientific data to back up his observations.
The Algae industry today is moving towards multiple applications including nutraceuticals, cosmetics, animal feed, Carbon capture & recycle, and wastewater treatment while research into cost-effective bioethanol, biodiesel and other bioenergy production continues behind the scenes.
