Blinds Chalet Announces 7 Costly Mistakes To Avoid When Ordering Window Blinds

As an online retailer selling thousands of window blinds per month, Blinds Chalet can tell you without a doubt, the top mistake that people make when ordering and installing blinds is measuring incorrectly.

Phoenix, AZ (Vocus/PRWEB ) March 25, 2009 -- As an online retailer selling thousands of window blinds per month, Blinds Chalet can tell you without a doubt, the top mistake that people make when ordering and installing blinds is measuring incorrectly. "Measuring for window blinds is easy if you follow a few simple steps. Blinds are made to order so if you ordered a blind too short or too long, you have to go back to the drawing board," says Ron Manwaring of Blinds Chalet.

The Top 6 Mistakes Made When Measuring For Window Blinds:

1. Customer took their own deductions on inside mount blinds. Each factory will take the proper deductions to make the blinds/shades fit within the size window specified. If you aren't sure how much the factory deducts, contact your blind retailer and ask.

2. Customer mis-measured. Double and triple-check your measurements. Make sure you are measuring from one correct point to another depending on the type of blind you are ordering.

3. On outside mount blinds customer fails to add to the width and height of the window frame. Outside mount blinds come the exact size specified, no deductions are taken. Height measured from the top of the headrail to bottom of the bottom rail. When measuring, you need to add inches to the width and height so the blinds extend past the edge of the window frame. Typically add at least 3" to both width and height. Add enough to the height to allow for the headrail/hardware to mount above the window.

5. Depth of window frame not measured. Each product has a different depth required, read product specifications to find the depth for that particular window blind. Depth is measured from the shallowest point. On double hung windows, use the shallowest section of the window frame. Take into consideration things such as window cranks.

6. Transposing the width and height when ordering. Make sure you label the width and height correctly before you make your purchase and correctly relay that information when ordering.

7. Measure in 3 places. Windows are not always square and may be slightly smaller on one end than the other. Round down to the nearest 1/8".
