Teacher and Award-Winning Artist Tully Thornton Creates a Charming Children's Book about the Importance of Friendship

In first grade teacher Tully Thornton's "Pretty Pete the Parrot," a conceited little parrot ends up teaching children the true meaning of friendship.

Hornbeck, LA (PRWEB) January 4, 2007 -- Award-winning painter and educator Tully Thornton tells a wry tale of a self-involved parrot that learns about friendship the hard way in the gorgeously illustrated children's book, "Pretty Pete the Parrot."

What makes a good friend? Is beauty more than skin deep? Those are the questions posed and addressed in Tully Thornton's enchanting children's book, "Pretty Pete the Parrot." Pretty Pete believes he can get by on his fancy appearance alone and he pays no attention to the other animals around him. But when he loses all his feathers in a storm, Pretty Pete isn't so pretty anymore, and he must learn to depend on those he once ostracized. With compassion and understanding, the other animals help Pretty Pete through a very tough time.

Thornton has won awards on the local and state level for his art, and his watercolor illustrations pop off the page with warmth and wit. His message about "a friend in need is a friend indeed" will surely resonate with children everywhere. "Pretty Pete the Parrot" will be a treasured addition to any school or home library, and will delight parents and kids alike.

For more information, please contact the author by e-mail. "Pretty Pete the Parrot" is available for sale online at Amazon.com, Borders.com and through additional wholesale and retail channels worldwide.
